INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER EVENTS

Wonder Paws is excited to host top international speakers who are experts in their fields of animal learning, training and behaviour.  Following on from the successful events of 2016, we are delighted to welcome two TOP names in the field of training and behaviour to our venue in 2017.

SUZANNE CLOTHIER - Saturday 15th July 2017, 9am -5pm

Hang on to your hat! We’re going to try to fit a ton of information into just one day’s workshop. The goal is to leave attendees with a feel for the practical application of some of the effective, sensible and humane Relationship Centered Training (RCT) techniques.

Morning session 9:00 -12:30 AM
Mid-morning tea break 15-20 minutes

RCT & THE ELEMENTAL QUESTIONS:

We will focus on the 3 core concepts of Relationship Centered Training (RCT) and The Elemental Questions, 6 simple questions that open the door to a deeper, nuanced understanding of the dog. Using demo dogs, participants will learn new ways to observe dogs, to really "see the dog." These detailed observations reveal how the dog perceives his world, what interests or bores him, how physical limits may be performing at his best, how to respond to a dog who tells you "this is boring!" and more.

Emphasis is placed on learning how to see what the dog can tell us about himself through various observations. Attendees will deepen their understanding of the dog's behavior as responses to his temperament, the environment, intrinsic & extrinsic influences, and social stimuli. Understanding the dog within the context of this complex blend of information helps handlers work to modify and adapt their handling and goals for enhanced relationships and better performance.
Learning to see the dog as a unique individual is the foundation for all humane training and healthy dog/human relationships. Observation skills are helpful to any handler, whatever training techniques they may use or behavior & performance goals they may have.

Lunch – 12:30-1:00 PM
Afternoon Session 1:30 – 5:00 PM
Mid-afternoon tea break 15-20 minutes

PRACTICAL RCT:

The afternoon sessions focuses on live demonstrations with dogs of the simple, effective Relationship Centered Training techniques that are valuable for any handler and dog, but particularly useful for dogs with anxiety, reactivity, “youthful exuberance” (adolescence!) and other behavior challenges:

• Auto Check-In
• Ghost Handling
• Go Hunt
• Really Real Relaxation Protocol
• Finding the Think & Learn Zone

Attendees will learn to use these simple, effective techniques that help alter a dog's feeling about a situation, bring balance to the dog/human relationship without punishment or confrontation, and help the dog and handler develop new skills for a variety of situations.
